Hashtags Part 1: Why use hashtags

content creation hashtags how to written content

Welcome to my three part blog series on hashtags.

The first blog is all about why you should use hashtags! The next two blogs will centre around how to find which hashtags to use and how to implement them effectively.

Why should you use hashtags?

Simple, searchability. Using relevant hashtags on your posts increases your searchability. This means that if you’re using the right hashtags your audience will be searching, they can find you and your content.

People also choose to follow certain hashtags which makes it even more likely for them to come across your content. This is why it’s important to ensure you are using the hashtags that are relevant to your audience to make sure you get in front of the right people. We’ll talk more about that in the next blog.

My top tips for using hashtags

To make sure you’re getting the most out of hashtags, I’ve got two important tips:

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Hashtags must be placed in the caption of the post in order for them to count towards SEO (search engine optimisation to you’re even more findable by your ideal audience).

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Use 30 hashtags. The recommendation made by Instagram themselves is to use between 3-5 hashtags on each post. This has been a hot topic among the Instagram community but the general consensus after trialling it ourselves is that if you can use up to 30 hashtags, use them.

If you’ve currently been ignoring your hashtags or putting random hashtags in, then it’s worth dedicating some time to create a really good hashtag bank so your posts can be found by your ideal audience and eventually lead to more sales. We’ll be diving into these topics in the next two blog posts.
